NEW LEVEL OF ACTION FOR SPLINTER CELL A full arsenal of cutting-edge innovations allow you to outflank foes with the Last Known Position™ system, tag and eliminate enemies using the Mark and Execute™ feature, and much more. Uniting revolutionary gameplay enhancements with a high-octane, no-holds-barred storyline, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction arms you to the teeth with all the high-tech weaponry and lethal skills of an elite operative and invites you to enter a dangerous world where justice means making your own rules. Now a renegade, Fisher finds himself in a race against time to thwart a deadly terrorist plot that threatens millions. In the current climate of so many hybrid action and stealth games, I feel like this game got so much right and was a influence on later games. An investigation into his daughter’s death unwittingly leads former agent Sam Fisher to discover he’s been betrayed by his prior agency, the Third Echelon.

It balances action and stealth perfectly and seamlessly and I’m glad that format had continued into Blacklist. In these small environments you’re forced to save your best shots for the best situations otherwise it’s a wasted bullet.Īgain, Conviction isn’t much a Splinter Cell game at all but I think the game completely nailed the feeling of avoiding detection while also being quick paced. The Mark and Execute isn’t original especially by today’s standards, but it does fit this template perfectly again. At first it feels strange, but after a few levels it feels so natural you forget it’s there. Without all the gear telling you what light and dark is, the choice to turn the screen monochrome fit flawlessly with the fast paced gameplay as you are constantly on the move. The game also made perfect use of its stripped back approach by its minimalism. It felt so good flanking around buildings and rooms to get enemies from behind as they all race to see where they think you are. It sounds straight forward but I haven’t seen AI in other stealth games operate the way that this game did. It alerts you immediately to where you are believed to be by enemies. The Last Known Position feature is one of the best things I’ve seen in a stealth game. It managed to get rid of all the things that made SC games great, yet it became a perfect fast paced stealth-action game in its own right.

Splinter Cell Conviction is a stripped down stealth game in all senses, and there’s no denying that the choice to get rid of what made the series so iconic (being fully geared up with the tri-vision goggles) is a strange one that understandably puts the game in a bad place on the lists for many.įor all the shortcomings that Splinter Cell Conviction presented however, I really think this game nailed a lot in terms of traversing Sam Fisher around it’s closed and claustrophobic environments.
